Clausen studied at the Grossherzogliche Kunstschule in Weimar, Germany (1916–17), at the women’s academy in Munich (1918–19), and at the Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi, Moderne Kunst, in Denmark (1921-2). Clausen has studied under Hans Hofmann at the Hofmann Schule Fur Moderne Kunst in Munich (1921-2) and under Alexander Archipenko in 1922.Clausen was trained to create geometric purity and clarity of form〔(Grove Art Online ). Between 1924 and 1928 Clausen worked in Paris. In the paintings from this period such as, Konstruktiv modellstudie, (1925), Contre-Composition (1928), and Komposition, (1927), was under the influence of Leger’s machine style and is clearly visible.〔(Grove Art Online ).
